Since 1936, three generations of the Fellin-Kosko family have been tested each year to remain members of the prestigious American Gem Society.
For almost 70 years, the AGS has been dedicated to setting and maintaining the highest possible standards of business ethics and professionalism in the jewelry industry. The standards are so high, in fact, that less than five percent of all retail jewelry stores in the United States qualify to be called members.
As an AGS member, we must also possess a high level of gemological knowledge, as well as subscribe to a strict ethical code which includes a pledge to honest pricing and accurate, ethical advertising.
As AGS jewelers, we are also expected to keep up-to-date and informed about the latest trends and innovations in gemology, including gemstone treatments, detecting synthetics, jewelry repair techniques, fashion trends and the diamond market.

Almost A Century of Tradition
After 80 years and three generations, Fellin’s Jewelers continues to shine as the area’s premiere jewelry establishment. Located in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Fellin’s was founded in 1922 by John and Mary Fellin. The business eventually passed to their daughter Celeste and her husband Edward Kosko. Upon Edward’s death, Celeste and her daughters, Andrea and Mary Celeste, have continued the tradition of family ownership and day-to-day management.
First located at 251 North Wyoming Street, Fellin’s experienced a steady increase in business and soon made a move to 15 North Wyoming Street, which was considerably closer to the commercial center of Hazleton.
By 1935, Fellin’s was poised for more growth and siezed the opportunity to expand by relocating to its current address at 14 East Broad Street. This suited the business for almost 50 years until, once again, in 1983 the Fellin-Kosko family decided upon further expansion by acquiring the neighboring showroom, thus doubling the available floor space!
The Lyric Room is Brought To Life
During renovations, builders uncovered part of the space that had actually been the lobby of one of Hazleton’s first movie theatres, “The Lyric Theatre,” dating back to the late teens and early twenties.
Of course, we at Fellin’s welcomed this wonderful discovery and decided to preserve this piece of Hazleton’s history by restoring the original pressed-tin ceiling and decorative stonework, while enhancing the room with a beautiful Waterford Crystal chandelier and period wall sconces.
This restored space is appropriately named the “Lyric Room” and serves as a separate display space for fine jewelry and giftware.
