Partners: Andrea, Celeste, and Mary Celeste

At the dawn of a new millennium, third generation partners, Mary Celeste and Andrea Kosko sought out new gemstones. Aware that political changes within countries affect economic markets, they identified Tashmarine, found in Xinjiang Province in China, and Imperial Diopside, found in Siberia, as prized specimens. Neither had been available in the west until the demise of the USSR and the commercial development of China. Fellin’s introduced them to the Hazleton market in 2000 and 2001.

Recognizing that e-commerce is an increasingly important retail channel, Fellin’s opened its first Internet store in 2006. E-tailing presents unique challenges and, as the Internet continually evolves, so must e-commerce websites. To effectively compete in a “Web 2.0″ world, fellinsonline is transforming itself once more. The blog you’re reading has been added, as well as many beautiful examples of the jewelers’ art. There’s much more to come, so login and stay tuned!

While Fellin’s Jewelers is very proud of its past, it is important to spend as much time looking forward as looking back. Fellin’s approaches the future with optimism and anticipates many more exciting innovations. However, there is one thing that will never change: Fellin’s Jewelers’ eighty-five-year tradition of excellent quality, service, style and value.

Celeste and Edward, wedding day

In the 1950’s, Celeste Fellin Kosko and her husband, Edward, took the helm from founders John and Mary Fellin. Edward’s top priority was education. He completed a rigorous course of study with the Gemological Institute of America and earned the title of Registered Jeweler. Later, after several more years of study and practical experience, he was recognized as a Certified Gemologist. Throughout his career, his desire to learn about discoveries and new diagnostic methods in the field of gemology never waned. Above all, he took special joy in sharing the romance and incomparable beauty of fine gems with his customers.

Together, Celeste and Edward added many new lines of gemstone jewelry and fine giftware to an already impressive selection. Among them, Waterford Crystal was brought to the Hazleton market in 1959 by Fellin’s. Waterford stands out as the premiere hand-cut luxury crystal, prized for its beauty and craftsmanship. In the early 1970’s, Fellin’s introduced Pulsar LED watches, the first fully electronic wristwatch in the world, a space-age technological innovation.

In 1984, the partners began an extensive expansion and restoration of Fellin’s historic center-city location. They carefully oversaw the preservation of design elements from one of Hazleton’s first moving picture theatres, the Lyric Theatre (c. 1910,) which were uncovered during the course of renovation. When the project was completed, Fellin’s elegant display space had doubled. The tradition of excellence, integrity, and innovation cultivated by Celeste and Edward during their thirty-five year tenure continues today.

Early in the last century, when young men from Europe came to America to seek their fortune, John Fellin arrived in Hazleton.

Born and raised in the alpine Tyrolean region of what is now Northern Italy, he made his home in the Pocono plateau of northeastern Pennsylvania. Deep coal mining was the prominent industry and little villages and towns popped up everywhere.

John Fellin and his travelcase

John made his living by traveling from town to town with a case of wedding rings, pocket watches, rosaries, and precious jewels. His original traveling case is lovingly preserved in the store that bears his name. Its been said that behind every great man, there’s a great woman. Mary Fellin’s influence on her husband’s career bears that out. It was her suggestion that he leave the traveling behind and open a business in Hazleton. Together, they established Fellin’s Jewelers in 1922.

Recognizing that not all jewelry or jewelers are created equal, John enthusiastically joined the newly-formed American Gem Society in 1936. Long before the concept of consumer protection became popular, the American Gem Society and its members set out to educate the public and ensure a high degree of ethics in the conduct of business. From 1936 to the present, Fellin’s has maintained membership in this prestigious organization.

Heliotrope Perfume: “Princesse” eau de parfum

This wonderful fragrance combines the floral notes of rose, lily and jasmine highlighted with crisp citrus. It is melded into a base of heliotrope and warmed with sandalwood, oakmoss and vanilla.

What Does Heliotrope Smell Like?

Heliotrope perfume is vaguely familiar to the scent of sweet vanilla. This perfume is very popular during the sweltering summer months because the nectarous scent of heliotrope blends well with the heavy humid air. Fall into a light daydream of euphoria when you take a deep breath of this pleasant smell.

Mary Chess Perfumes

The original Heliotrope Perfume was created by Mary Chess Perfumes in the 1940’s, but then this ultra-popular line was abruptly discontinued in the mid 1990’s. Due to popular demand, Fellin’s has partnered with a professional perfumer to bring this nostalgic perfume back to life in the twenty-first century. We named our fragrance after Princess Diana’s elegance as “Princesse” eau de parfum.
